Cast iron skillet is one of the kitchen equipment that is highly used while cooking meals. 1. Prepare your salmon
After buying your salmon, you are required to get it ready for cooking. Uncover it and put it in your fridge for a period of 30 minutes to an hour to allow the skin to dry out. When you remove it from the refrigerator, pat the salmon with paper towels to get rid of any moisture. In case you bought a long salmon, cut it into pieces of about 2 inches wide using a sharp knife. Spray the top surface of the salmon with oil and spread it evenly to ensure that it does not stick on the skillet when flipping. Sprinkle salt and add your favorite seasoning or spices such as black pepper or paprika to add an extra flavor.

2. Preheat the cast-iron skillet
Clean your cast iron pan with hot water, then place your cast iron pan over a medium to high heat for some minutes. Also, while heating, brush the pan with oil and tilt the skillet to ensure that a thin layer of oil forms at the bottom. Continue with this process until small ripples are formed on the surface but do not let it smoke. Once your frying pan is hot enough, reduce the heat to a medium-low. Remarkably, Preheating is a crucial step since when your salmon enters on a cold cast iron skillet, it will tear during overturning.
3. Fry your salmon
Carefully place your fillets on the cast iron skillet under medium heat, ensuring that you don’t accidentally splash oil over your face or hands. Also, if the salmon is curling, use a fish spatula to flatten it by pressing the fillet down evenly on your frying pan. Consider using a timer as you let each side of your salmon cook for 4 minutes without tampering with it. During the last minute, start flipping your salmon and allow some oil to run underneath it so that it becomes crispier. After overturning, fry it for another 4 minutes or less and add two more minutes if the fillet is super thick.
4. Remove the cast iron from the source of heat
After the salmon is ready, turn off the source of heat to avoid overcooking it. Also, you can opt to press the fish against the surface of the skillet to sear it. Remove the pan, place it somewhere else, and leave it to cool for 2-3 minutes. Now serve the salmon on the plate with side dishes of your choice.
